Right now depression, it is the number four cause of disability in the US and it is becoming more common. Sapolsky states that depression is as real of a biological disease as is diabetes.
Stephen Nolan meets Prof Ian Anderson at Univeristy of Manchester, where he studies the science behind depression. With the help of brain imaging, his research has found that in the hippocampus area of the brain, there is 25% less grey matter in people suffering with depression than those who don’t.
